The vendor problem
The VeriFactu engine requires a SHA-256 hash chain (RD 1007/2023, Art. 8), a QR code per invoice (Order HAC/1177/2024), a SOAP queue with retries to the AEAT endpoints, digital certificate management, and an immutable audit log. This is not a generic invoicing API — it is a regulatory regime with 200+ pages of technical specifications.
As a software manufacturer or distributor, the fine if your product does not comply reaches €150,000/year (RD 1007/2023 · Ley 58/2003). That exposure is additional to the end user's: your client pays up to €50,000/year; you pay up to €150,000/year on top.
Building the engine in-house: at minimum 6 months of engineering at senior cost (~€60,000–80,000 loaded), plus ongoing maintenance every time the AEAT updates its schema. Embedding VeriFacturas Enterprise is €499/month and an afternoon of integration. The engine is already live against the AEAT.
